This week’s Mom On Mission is a dear friend of one of our MomCo Mamas, and we are proud to know her. Kristin Estok, from Pittsburgh, PA is the Founder of Go Shout Love , and a mom that is making it possible for children with rare illnesses to have their stories shared with the world. She has brought over 13 families across the United States comfort, encouragement, and some extra funds to help in their journey.
In her own words:
After hearing about a friend’s child who was diagnosed with a rare and terminal illness I wanted to be able to offer more support and encouragement for families who were hurting and walking through tough times. What started as a simple blog post turned into an Instagram Auction to help raise funds for this family’s medical costs. After the auction wrapped up I began to receive emails from other families asking if I could do a blog post on them or help them put together an auction and from there we realized that we could really do something to help provide support for these families and then Go Shout Love was born. To put it simply, we just wanted to create a space where it was easy to do some pretty amazing things for some pretty amazing people. We feature a different family every month who has a child with a rare illness and we spend all month long celebrating that family and raising funds for them through the sales of items from our online shop and through our Instagram Auctions.
There are so many situations out there where we find ourselves asking, “How can we help? What can we do?” It is easy to feel helpless and unsure of how to provide any type of support and we wanted to create a space where there were many ways to help and offer support and encouragement to these families. Whether it be through buying a tee, participating in one of our auctions, or just offering words of support – there are so many ways to help and to wrap your arms around these families.
The families we feature are my biggest inspiration. We learn something new from each one we feature and the strength and perseverance within them is incredible. The sacrifice and relentless love they show for their children is one of the most inspirational things I have ever witnessed. Most of these parents have not had a solid 3-4 hours of sleeps in months or years and yet they wake up each and every morning determined to make each day a day full of joy for their babies. They have taught me how to be a better mother, a better wife, a better friend, and just an all around better person. I owe a lot to these families and we will continue to shape and mold Go Shout Love to help more and more families and to represent them and their children in the best way we possibly can!
Go Shout Love has kept me more busy than I ever anticipated it ever doing, but as much as I love Go Shout Love, nothing is more important than my sweet baby boy. I guess if I had any tips to give it would be to put work aside when you can and to make sure your little one knows they are the most special person in your life every single day. It’s okay to sometimes say to screw it, put the work aside, and to just take them on a fun adventure instead! I know that’s not always probable, but when you can – do it! I am constantly learning how to juggle both work and being a mom, but being a mom will always win.
