This week’s MomCo Mom On A Mission is mom who has created a community and built a successful and meaningful business through learning and growing from her own struggles. We are so happy to have Ashley be a part of our MomCo mamas not only through our Mom On Mission, but as a monthly writer to our blog where she is sharing with our community her journey of being a birth mom, and to bring help and awareness to a community of women who need it.
Today we share Ashley’s story with you.
In her own words.
In 2006 I placed a baby boy for Adoption. After this incredibly difficult and chaotic time in my life I desperately needed some support, a community that could truly understand what I was going through. This was not easy to find so in 2010 I started a Non-Profit Organization that was for Birth Mothers only.
Over the years, after sharing my story through my blog and on dozens of other Adoption Sites I started to get emails from women around the world. They would share their hearts with me and let me know that even though they didn’t have a tie to Adoption, they truly believed that they were a “Big Tough Girl” too.
I knew in my heart that we needed to bring this title to the women of the world!
In 2015 we dissolved the Non-Profit and we launched Big Tough Girl™. A place where we could truly support, honor and celebrate women from ALL walks of life.
Through many different programs including The Big Tough Girl Project, our BTG Soul Cruise, the Faith Restored Ministry and of course our loving Birth Mother Community we are connecting women, we are educating on the tough issues and we are providing resources so that we can all get the proper help and support that we need.
We believe that every woman has a story and that every woman is a Big Tough Girl™. We simply want to love you and celebrate you for all that you are!
“A Big Tough Girl™ is any WOMAN that can and will maintain the ability to endure, to carry on, to push through without weakening or perishing. SHE is able to go on in the face of pain, loss, discouragement or suffering without being defeated. SHE will continue to move forward without regret, in healing and happiness. SHE has the ability to stand firm in her life, move past her greatest fears, and live an inspired life that shines a positive light for the world to see.”
– Ashley Mitchell, Owner BTG
Over the years one of the most valuable keys in my healing process has been the story of other women. I have been brought to tears, touched to the core and forever inspired and changed because someone was brave enough to be real and vulnerable and share the realities of their life.
That has truly become our inspiration for the work we are doing with Big Tough Girl™.
It is not easy to share a voice, to admit to weakness and to ask for help. But I believe that we can inspire the masses if we have a place to share our voice in safe and loving place.
The stories that have been shared with me over the years have lifted me from the darkness and these women deserve a place to be celebrated.
Never stop sharing your lives with me. It is a great treasure and I know we can move mountains together.
The greatest tip that I can give is that we can’t do this alone. We all have something, a talent or strength that we can bring to the table. We need community, we need support and we need REAL friends in our life. We can’t and shouldn’t do this alone, it is just too damn hard.
I would not be here today if it wasn’t for my BTG Family.
That is one of the reasons that I love MomCo so much. It is bringing us out of our homes, away from the isolation and allows for opportunity for real life connection, for love and supporting friends and just a chance to breathe and say “thank goodness, I thought I was the only one!”
