We are thrilled to feature Michelle Ziegler as this week’s Mom on a Mission, and help her to reach her goal of opening an art studio for kids in Encinitas, CA! The city is losing an amazing asset to the art community in the closing of another children’s studio. Michelle hopes to fill the void and develop a space where kids can let their imagination and creativity bloom, but she needs your help! Michelle has partnered with GoFundMe to raise the start-up finances to make her vision a reality. Any amount will help, please consider making a donation and, in turn, an investment in art for the community of Encinitas.
In her own words:
My name is Michelle Ziegler and I am a full time wife and mom to four very busy and precious boys (ages 3, 4, 6, and 8). I am a home-grown Southern California girl and love the beach! One of my favorite activities is to walk along the coast with my family and soak up the sun and beauty of North County, San Diego. I married my high school sweetheart and we have been happily married for 17 years. My four boys (yes I have my hands full as many people will comment, but my heart is even fuller!) keep me on my toes! Life with them is never dull, whether it is a baby powder explosion in my littlest boy’s room or a game of chase ending in the Christmas tree falling over with broken ornaments everywhere (That really happened one year…). Though the days can be crazy, I am beyond blessed! Before my second son was born, I was a Kindergarten teacher for seven years and have several years’ experience in event planning. I love planning parties, whether its a wedding, baby shower, or a child’s birthday party!
First and foremost, my main source of inspiration comes from God. Through my relationship with Him, I am inspired to become the best wife, mom and woman I can be. My children inspire me! I have learned so much from these little people who live in my house. As moms, we read books, take classes, search Pinterest, and talk to other parents as we navigate through the journey of motherhood. Once we feel like we’ve nailed it and have the best discipline solution or ways to teach them how to do something, they throw a wrench in “our plan” and we realize that its our children who teach us and inspire us to be the moms that we are. My boys humble me, encourage me, and blow me away with the love they have for life. Most importantly, they have been teaching me that I am the perfect mom for them. I will always make mistakes, just as they do, but they inspire me to get up every morning because they love me for who I am.
My Best Parenting Tips:
I have always been passionate about kids beginning back when I mothered my cabbage patch dolls. I babysat starting in fifth grade and my dream was to get married and have children of my own. When my two oldest boys were little I would have a group of moms and their kids come over and we would do art! I would plan little projects and gather the materials and we would get messy in my kitchen. This allowed me to still “teach” and use that passion! Soon after, I realized my town had a great art studio for kids called Art Soup! My boys loved it and it was always busting at the seams with children and their parents enjoying time together exploring art! Just this week, Art Soup closed due to health problems of the owner. The community is devastated, as am I. In schools all over right now, art is not a huge part of the curriculum. Kids may get it just once a month, yet they all have iPads on their desks and use them daily. Technology is important, especially in this day and age, but kids need to be kids and have a place to let their creativity bloom! They need an art studio where they can go and have the opportunity to express who they are and what they love through painting, drawing, making collages, mobiles, and using a variety of materials. I want to offer this to the children of North County, San Diego.
I want to open a children’s art studio in Encinitas!
My husband and I have started a GoFundMe site and are hopeful to raise enough money to get this studio jump started. Our plan is to offer childrens art classes, open hours for free art play, special events, birthday parties, and field trips. It will be a place where children can come, get messy, and explore their creativity. Please visit our Go Fund Me site to learn more and to help us spread the word and raise awareness that art is a need for children in North County.
